JBGB’S Bar Menu
2025
JBGB, short for John Brown General Butchery, is a restaurant in Baltimore's Remington neighborhood with a clear identity. The food highlights traditional Americana with an artisanal twist: burgers, chicken, pizzas both classic and experimental. The space is in a former butchery, and its industrial roots are still visible in the decor. The bar program follows the same approach, with old-school cocktails made using classical techniques and the occasional unexpected twist.
The goal was to redesign the cocktail menu so it felt truly native to the space, not just related to it. The existing JBGB's identity needed to be respected while giving the bar its own unique presence, something that could stand alone without losing sight of the whole.
The solution came through material and typography. Printed on traditional wax butcher paper, the menu uses layered typographic styles and stamp-inspired graphics to create a tactile, immediate feel. It's punchy without being loud, grounded without feeling heavy. The design fits the room because it understands the room.
